Five Little Words

We’ve come to discover we are not alone. Neither are you.

We are listening.

“Nobody would listen to me.”

It took decades after her suicide attempt for her to find the courage to tell me why she tried to take her life—twice.

Nobody did listen, and, sadly, not even I did. The data proves it: we still don’t. These five words are the driving force behind Little Voices of Truth.

Why does this matter? Because we don’t fully understand the extent of the problem. It all comes down to “unreliable data vs. truths.”

Disclosures of abuse and trauma are often dismissed as “unreliable data.” For instance, child abuse calls are not recorded by our 988 national crisis hotline or by many government and nonprofit agencies. This results in a lack of the necessary policies, laws, and funding required for treatment and healing.

Sadly, too many continue to suffer when hope is readily available.

Data, science, and our truths show that healing from the biological and psychological effects of trauma (whether from childhood or current) is not something one can do alone.

Left untreated, these traumas are often passed down, affecting generations of children.

Five of the top ten leading causes of death can be linked to childhood traumas, commonly referred to as ACEs.(adverse childhood experiences).

Currently, there is no centralized system for reporting child abuse.

Up to 90% of child sexual abuse  survivors in the United States never report their abuse to law enforcement. More than 30% never report it to anyone.

Marie and I were both sexually abused by my father and others. She was left permanently brain-injured, requiring 24-hour care.

I masked my pain with perfectionism and people-pleasing, leading me into one damaging relationship after another, desperately seeking validation and love.

We’ve come to discover we are not alone. Neither are you.

We are listening.

Have you ever felt that nobody was listening? Please share your experience on our website under Our Truths.
